| SANCHO PANZA |
Sancho Panza are djs Matt Brown & Jimmy K-Tel. Since their humble beginnings in a basement in north London on New Years Eve 1992 Sancho Panza have been organising and playing at some of London’s finest underground house nights.
Sancho Panza have become renowned around the world for hosting their massive Sound System at the annual Notting Hill Carnival, Europe’s largest street party, where they run the largest sound system dedicated solely to underground house music. Each year the Sancho Panza Sound System attracts over 10,000 party people for 2 days of road block partying to the sounds of djs Matt Brown & Jimmy K-Tel, alongside the extended Sancho Panza family which includes the likes of Layo & Bushwaka, Craig Richards, and Lee Burridge.
Sancho Panza hold a monthly residency at The End in London where they host the AKA Room at Layo & Bushwackas All Night Long sessions. They also play at all of London’s quality club venues, including Fabric, The Cross, Medicine, 333 etc... Infamous for their warehouse partys, over the years Sancho Panza have hosted party’s in film studios, old cinemas, photography studios, old embassies and their legendary summer boat party’s which set sail once a month along the River Thames from May to September.
August 2002 saw the release of their first compilation mix album aptly titled ‘Carnival’ on MY Records, which featured tracks from artistes such as Francois K, Tedd Patterson, Tiefschwarz, and Chris Lum and was received with much critical acclaim in the dance music press being named CD of the month in DJ Mag, Muzik and Mixmag who proclaiming it as “probably the best house compilation of the year”. The second instalment entitled ‘Float’ received equally high plaudits on its release in August 2003, with Pete Tong calling it ‘Quite simply stunning’(Sept 03). The double CD features tracks from the likes of Brett Johnson, Freaks, Soul Mekanik, Inland Knights and Ewan Pearson.
Sancho Panza hit the festival circuit in 2003 with an appearance on Radio 1’s live stage at the Glastonbury Festival where they played a marathon 12 hour set. They also hosted the VIP tent at the Global Gathering and played the Official MTV Europe Awards After Party. The end of the year saw a live mix for Pete Tongs Essential Selection Radio show, and a tour of the Far East with gigs in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and New Years Eve in the Philippines where Sancho Panza brought the Carnival vibe to a street party in downtown Manila.
2004 was Sancho Panza’s busiest year ever. The summer saw Sancho play even more festivals, with appearances at Glastonbury, Sonar in Barcelona, The Big Chill and The Glade Festival where they produced their own tent. In August they returned to their spiritual home of Notting Hill Carnival where they teamed up with DJ Mag and hosted a massive sell out post Carnival party at the legendary Hammersmith Palais with guests James Lavelle & Lee Burriidge. The rest of 2004 was spent touring with DJ Mag on the DJ Mag Sancho Panza Carnival tour, spreading the Carnival vibe around the UK and Europe with a club tour featuring dj’s Matt Brown and Jimmy K-Tel. The year ended on a ridiculous high when Sancho produced one of their legendary warehouse parties for 900 happy people.
A Sancho Panza dj set takes you on a journey through house music. From Jimmy K-Tel’s distinctive rude and rocking breaks tinged house sets, through to Matt Brown’s electrotechouse sound. The emphasis laid squarely on rocking the dance floor. |
